The husband and wife team behind Akitaya have done a fantastic job in Ningbo. They serve the freshest sushi in town. The staff speaks English, Japanese, and Chinese, and are immaculately attired in kimonos. The level of service is outstanding - those of you who have experienced Japanese service will feel at home here.
Elegant Japanese decor is prevalent throughout. There are private rooms, floored with tatami bamboo mats where you can sit on cushions, or Western style booths with tables and chairs. Either way, privacy is assured.
Akitaya isn't like the other Japanese restaurants in Ningbo - no "shovel the food down" atmosphere. This is a fine dining establishment.
Akitaya has three different locations in Ningbo. They have different menus and specials. Let's look at them one by one.
Akitaya, Sheraton Hotel 秋田家
52 Caihong Bei Lu 彩虹北路52号
Tel: 0574-8768-8688-63

This location is on the second floor of the Sheraton Ningbo Hotel. Five-star elegance in Akitaya's finest location.
Akitaya, Kylie Hotel 秋田家
76 Jicao Jie 箕漕街76号
Tel: 0574-8705-7656
[Print Taxi Directions]
This restaurant is on the third floor of the Kylie Hotel. Our favorite aspect of Akitaya is the ¥150 teppanyaki buffet (drinks not included). Sit around a griddle while the chef prepares the food in front of you. If you need to impress guests, or are craving the most tender sirloin steak morsels in the city, this location is for you.
Akitaya, Haiju Hotel 秋田家
218 Ma Yuan Lu 马园路218号
Tel: 0574-8707-6796
[Print Taxi Directions]
This is on the first floor of the
Haiju Hotel on the west side of Ningbo. They don't offer an all-you-can-eat option (tabehodai) or teppanyaki. They do, however, have an extensive menu, including such favorites as sushi, sashimi, okonomiyaki, grilled tuna head, and of course natto. The lunch special is a set menu for only ¥50-98 per plate.
Iron Chef my Ass
good restaurant, great vibe, friendly staff, relaxing environment - but nothing out of the ordinary in terms of sensational japanese food - for Ningbo however I would relatively say this restaurant is extremely good. although once again the prices really hurt me in the pocket - the miso was a little too packet and hot water miso for me - the bowl of rice was cold sushi rice and not hot "just finished a long day in the fields, can't wait to eat" style rice - the pickled vege's nah .. pass .. the sushi mixed plate very good - no complaints there - the staff participation great - the tempura VERY TASTY - great double fry techniqe crew ! drop it like it's hot ... all good go with a big crew and wreck shop in a small booth with lots of hot saki ... domo origatto ichiban
