¥ How to write the Yen symbol ¥
I have always liked the yen symbol ¥. I think it's much more elegant than spelling out RMB or yuan or (yuck) kuai. You will notice that the website an magazine make extensive use of this nifty symbol. To write it, hold down the ALT key, and type 0165 on your numeric keypad. It won't work if you use the number keys above the letters.
¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥¥ see? it's easy
Of course, there's the "one horizontal bar versus two horizontal bars" controversy...
I alwys type this symbol by “shift+4 ”(not in the numeric keypad). when input English it is “$” while typing Chinese it is ¥
hmm, alt + 0165 is ¥
it is thinner than ¥,![]()

There is a reason to stick to RMB or CNY on some cases. Try this experiment: right-click your mouse, choose "Encoding" and "Western European (Windows)", see what happens to the symbol
The moral of this story is, only Chinese-enabled or Unicode-enabled computer screens can display this symbol correctly. Hence, give a little bit of thought when writing to the other end of the world
Another classic example - many people in China like to use the "RAR" format to compress files, but "ZIP" format is more common in western countries.
One more advice: if you design a website with some Chinese characters and your target readers are outside China, consider using images (that is, JPG, GIF, etc.) instead of Chinese-character input
I thought I was a Chinese, until I come to China...Welcome to Planet Dragon, may The Farce be with you!
I right-clicked my mouse, and didn't see the "encoding" menu. Which program are you using?
The yen symbol has always existed in ISO-8859-1, the most common encoding set in the West. It works fine.
