Ningbo Municipal Library was founded in 1927. It holds 880,000 books, most of them in Chinese. Fortunately, Ningbo Library provides an English-language reading room on the second floor. They have newspapers and magazines such as Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report, Harpers, the Journal of Business Law, Fortune, Harvard Business Review, National Geographic, Reader's Digest, and so on. Technically, you should show your passport or library card when you enter this reading room, but they usually don't ask. The library also provides free internet access and electricity to readers who bring their laptops - no need to register your personal information.

On the last Saturday afternoon of every month, the library holds a book exchange program. It is a non-profit platform for readers to share their books. Usually, more than 300 people come on these days.
