Chinese Drivers License

If you want to drive a car, you must have a license. International drivers licenses are not valid in China. The drivers test is available in English. It contains true-false questions and multiple choice. Getting a license in Ningbo not nearly as difficult as it used to be. The drivers license bureau is much more used to dealing with foreigners nowadays. For help getting a local drivers license, read this post from our forum.

If you drive in China, consider that most drivers are new. Every day, hundreds of brand-new cars are driven by brand-new drivers. They don't have much experience on the road. Also, drinking and driving is common. So, be careful!

Have been informed that the English (and other Alien language) tests are unavailabla at this time.  The translations for the new style tests are not ready yet (have been regularly checking since November until today).

If you need to take the test urgently, be prepared to take the Chinese language test and use (your own) translator.  Double check  with the appropriate authorities to make sure.

If the foreigner he doesn't get any drive license in his country ,can he take part in kind of drive test in Ningbo to get a chinese drive license ?If somone has experience of that ,please give any idea ,thanks.

A friend of mine who doesn't speak very much Chinese just took his driver's license test - and didn't pass. When he went the first time they told him they didn't have any English study guides, only Chinese, so he studied the one posted here on the forum. However according to the person I just spoke to at the office the test was changed around the end of July. After the change you can still take the NEW test in English, but the preperation booklet is all in Chinese. Am I and his translator missinformed, or is it true that you basically must be able to read Chinese now to prepare for (and pass) the test?

He has been driving a car in the US for 20 years but we all know the questions on the test are very strange and this test is impossible to take without first studying the questions, so this seems designed to keep all but the most fluent (in Chinese) foreigners off the roads.

How about the other languages, Japanese, French, Russian, etc.?  The old test was in five or more languages.
