Lao Waitan is Ningbo's new restaurant and entertainment district. On the bank of the Yong river and next to Ningbo's beautiful Yongjiang Bridge, Lao Waitan is rapidly growing, with new businesses always starting. Also known as "The Old Bund", it's Ningbo's old foreigner district from the old days as a treaty port in the 18th and 19th centuries. A beautiful Catholic church built in French Gothic style is adjacent to Lao Waitan. There is a fire and water show on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 8pm on the boardwalk, and a museum displays the history of Lao Waitan as a treaty port. The cobblestone streets are a nice touch. Many restaurants of different styles make their home here. Every visitor to Ningbo must stop here.
Restaurants and Bars include:

Lao Waitan as seen from the river. The low buildings in front are Lao Waitan's old style, compared to the new construction visible behind.

Lao Waitan's boardwalk, with the nozzles for the fire and water show visible.

A floating pavilion provides a place to walk and sit in the cool riverside air.
