Don't be confused by the name. A lonesome statue to the town god sits at the entrance, but Chenghuang Temple is all shopping. This market is where local people go to buy cheap clothes. Four floors high, it's easy to get lost in the many small shops. The majority of shops sell garments, usually of domestic manufacture. Chenghuang is crowded on the weekends with young women looking for new clothes. Sometimes it is difficult to find properly sized clothes, because clothes made for the domestic market can be small. Look for racks outside the stores, they are inventory clearance sales. Always haggle with the shopkeepers! Just south of Chenghuang Temple is Tianfeng Tower, a Song dynasty pagoda.

Shops include:

  • Ladies' clothing
  • Handbags
  • Ladies' accessories - costume jewelry, hats, etc.
  • Chinese traditional clothes - foreigner-sized!
  • Athletic clothing
  • Mens' clothes
  • Paintings / frames
  • Lingerie

Tianfeng Tower can be seen in the background.

A crowded Saturday afternoon.

The four levels of Chenghuang Temple can be seen here.
