I haven't read it, but I'd

I haven't read it, but I'd like to.  It's really difficult to find English books in Ningbo.  So many bookstores only sell Chinese books.  I haven't read a book (other than language book) for so long...

It was on radio that there are quite a lot of people in Eu even believe until now that the earth is flat. They actually set up an association Well not the same topic. ……

very funny !

Never heard about EU people believe the earth is flat...and I am from EU ! It was on radio ???

Probably it is based on a kind of joke ( answer ) you tell somebody who is trying to make you believe unbelievable stories ...

Such as ...

...and the earth is flat....

...and Michael Schuhmacher cannot drive car...

...and Michael Jordan can't play basketball...

...and Chinese don't like rice...

But also can't promise that there are NO people in EU who believe the earth is flat, how about other countries Eye-wink

A book worth reading

I have read this book of Chinese edition. It just describes how  Globalization took place in both developed and less developed countries, the key point is that you should put the lower part of your production-chain to developing counties because of their low costs and higher part to developed counties because of the high quality staff and innovation industry.Wink

I have this book

The World is Really Flat, by Thomas Friedman.  I have the English edition in hardback.  It's OK but the ideas aren't really all that new - just updating the concept of the global economy in it's present form.  Frankly I can only read so much of that stuff before falling asleep, so it does help out with insomnia sometimes!

Excellent book - Should have your kids read it!

I think it’s an excellent book in explaining how we got to this point of Globalization. The scare of the Y2K bug and the collapsed of the dot com boom, which leads to the boom of India's IT industry, were covered beautifully by Friedman.  But what is more interesting is the underlying impact of Globalization to the American economy and future.  He described how America can excel against the challenge when it is visibly threatened, i.e. Sputnik flying overhead, and Soviet's parading its troops and missiles during May parade.  However, the globalization threat of today’s world is not easily pack in a 30 second sound bite on the evening news.. so most Americans are oblivious from the impending storm.  As he said.. American kids idolized Britney Spears, as Chinese kids idolized Bill Gates.   I have made this book a mandatory reading for my kids and hope to be a wake up call for the next generation.  As he said, "we used to say, kids eat your vegetables, there are starving children in Africa... now we have to say, kids study your books, there are children in Africa starving for your future jobs"I have the audio (mp3) version of this book. I will let you borrow (copy) it for a drink..hahaha.And yes, listening to it is also a good way to fall asleep during a long bus ride.
