Surfing in and around China
for those who like the sea, sand and surf I thought I would compile a
surf list for China. Its been a long time since I had my board tucked
under my arm and found my myself sprinting towards the waters edge, and
that adrenaline rush as I high heeled it through the swell... sigh!
surf spots in China include... (please note that i make no guarantees
about consistency, access, wave action, GPS co-ordinates, accuracy etc).
Yellow Sea Region:
Dapinglan Access; From the main city around, Qingdao, follow the East
road to Dapinglan village… and stop on seashore. The spot is leaning
against the North side of the bay.
GPS coordinates : 36°07’30’’N +120°37’16’’E
Qingdao Access; it is located INTO Surf Plaza hotel (316 Hong Kong East road). Because, yes, this is a private beach.
This is also the city where they make the infamous Tsing Tao beer.
Raoul's Access; AKA Yindu Beach. It's downtown, in front of the Yindu Huayuan condo.
Weihai NW Beach Break. AKA Seal tub beach. From the centre of Weihai
head through the tunnel to the North West. Turn right at the coast
road. The break is in front of a well known sea food restaurant. Cheng
Chen or something like that.
Shilaoren Access; Take a Taxi in Qingdao, access is in the city. GPS co-ordinates. 37° 32.50365' N + 122° 6.02906' E
Xuejadao point. AKA Yantaiqian Access; Qingdao city (road n°204 toward
South) and go to Xuejiadao, then to Yantaiqian village. Once in the
village, go toward South, the spot is in the bay. GPS co-ordinates.

East China Sea:
Haitan dao Access; Haitan dao is an island. Take a boat transit on
mainland, at Daqiu city (less than 15 minutes). On the island use
public transport. go to Pingtan village and follow the way to Haitan
wan ('Haitan bay'). The wave is there, on the South side. GPS
co-ordinates. 25°31'87,7''N + 119°51'13,2''E
Jiujiajien Access; Get a ferry from Beilun (near Ningbo) to Zhoushan
Island, then drive to the easternmost island. There are several small
beaches, one of them famous for the summer sand castle competition
(this one should serve as landmark).
Qingshan bay. AKA Qingshan Wan, Fujian Access. Qingshan Bay is located
in Chongwu Town, in Hui'An Area, Quanzhou City County, Fujian Province,
China. It's three hours North of Xiamen City, and three hours South of
Fuzhou City. The coast faces Taiwan, in the middle of the Strait. GPS
co-ordinates: 24°53.50385' N + 118°52.41692' E
Sansha Access; Once you get into the city of Sansha follow the main
road east of the town to the national forest. There is a four wheel
drive route which you take through until you reach the coast. Driv by
4x4 2 km south and then up the point and on the right side you will see
it at the front. GPS co-ordinates: 26°38'16 N + 119°48'44 E
Sheng Si Island access; 1 hour from Shanghai city to port of LuChao by
bus or taxi then 3 hours (55km) from that port to port of ShengSi
island by ship. From this port, you can get the north or south beach by
taxi and it takes about 15 minutes.
Waingro's Secret spot; This spot is located on one of the many islands
in Zhejiang Province. If you explore yourself, you are sure to find
this and many other spots. 4x4 drive access recommended.
South China Sea
Da Mei Sha beach; From Shenzhen, go on Yan He North Road and turn to
Luo Sha Highway at Luo Fang Cross. You will pass Wu Tong Mountain
Tunnel and then go straight to Yan Tian Port. After passing Yan Tian
Port, please go to Yan Ba Highway. It's about 1/2 drive from downtown
Shenzhen.
Dongshan Dao access; take direct bus to Dongshan City on Dongshan
Island, the town is inland so grab a moto taxi to the beach. On the
east coast of Dongshan there are three beaches, the northern most beach
is full of guesthouses, bars and restaurants. You need to get to the
long beach with a fishing village. Its the last beach on the east side.
On the south side of Dongshan there are also three beaches, sand bottom
and a point in each bay plus beach break. If the wind is bad on the
east, head south its offshore there or vice versa. Night life is
Thailand style, moto taxi is 8RMB/1$, seafood is fresh, guesthouse
40RMB night.
Hai Tang Wan access; drive from Sanya to Hai Tang Wan around 1hr.
Jeshi access; Highway No.324 to Lufeng city/Bomai city/Nantang city,
then go to Jieshi city. From Jieshi city, go toward East. You can try
to go to the beach with a 4x4 drive, but you'd rather expect a 5
kilometers march to the spot. GPS co-ordinates: 22°46'N + 115°50'E.
JinZonglu Access. AKA Golden Palm; The spot is along the very famous
Yalong Bay in Sanya, the south of Hainan. In front of the Hotel Golden
Palm.
Macau HacSa Beach access; From Macau center get a bus to coloane
village. The HacSa beach is next to the Westin Hotel in Coloane.
GPS co-ordinates: 22° 7.37615' N + 113° 34.28032' E
Maoming Refinery access; beach is about 2-3km long, access through the
refinery, probably need permission! refinery is about 8 square km.
Ocean Bay Golf Club access; Sanya airport, the airport at the southern
tip of Hainan Island. Drive north or south. North takes 1.5 hours or 2
hours going south.
Ri yue wan access; Sanya/Hainan Island and drive to the spot in 1.5 hrs (try to ask local people if problem to find)
Da Dong Hai access. AKA Sanya, AKA Hainan; It is a well developed commercial area with hotels and a Navy base.
Shangchuan dao access; road n°325, it's about 270 kilometers West of
Macao (400 from Hong Kong), the Island of Shangchuan is 13 km. offshore
the Guangdong coast. Go to Guanghai city and take a ferry to the island
(or rent a boat for yourself).
You will probably land @ Shadi harbour : from there, travel East to the main beach.
Xichong access; Situated about an hour from Dameisha at the tip of the
Dapeng Peninsula, Xichong Shenzhen. Directions: From Shenzhen Stadium,
take bus 360 to Nan’ao. From there, take a minibus or taxi, or
motorbike over the winding mountainous road to Xichong.
From Shenzhen/Hong Kong border...take a bus to Da Peng (North of
Shenzhen and outside of the economic zone). From Da Peng catch a
minibus to Nan'ao. From Nan'ao hire a taxi or motorbike; it is
recommended that you purchase a map and follow the roads along the
coast...plenty of possibilities to be had.
Alternative: Take bus 360 from the Shenzhen Stadium (Ti Yu Guan) to
Nan'ao. From Nan'ao you can take a minibus or hire a motorbike, which
should cost 10 RMB. You can also hire a van for 400 RMB per day to take
you from downtown Shenzhen.
