I don't know Craig's exact guidelines for deleting posts, but I don't believe he has ever banned someone's comments because the poster was gay or writing about the 'gay" scene. I have noticed posts deleted that were clearly sexual in nature regardless of the poster's orientation. Threads on "massage" parlors or solicitations for "service" by heterosexuals have been just as quickly erased. You could complain that you think Craig's policy on adult posts are too strict, but you won't find an "anti-gay" bias in his editing.

I refer you to to the recent post on gay nightlife is still on the forum; active, undeleted, and unblocked.

I remember, months ago, I noticed some bitter remarks posted by someone who is bit of angry with the editor. He was compaining Craig banned him just becouse he does not like gays. Now, I am back in China after months and see you are still drilling this issue! What is your problem? This is city guide's forum and the chief aim is to help people exchange informations and comments. This is not a political debate forum. From this thread, i'm becoming to know why western country have so much critical to china, which i think PART OF reason is" COMMUNICATION PROBLEM"

Yes, many foreigners do get tired of hearing how great China is, how good the food is, etc. I personally think it's better to just keep your head down, work hard, and let the place speak for itself. If I travel around a bit, I come back and think Ningbo is pretty nice. But if some local guy wants to lecture me on how clean and wonderful the city is, honestly(perhaps regrettably) my natural reaction is probably to bring him down off his high horse a bit and tell him how much cleaner my hometown is. 

I think this is a natural(although perhaps immature) reaction. I think the same reaction is taking place for many Chinese now. Unfortunately, outside criticism has led to a defensive reaction among many Chinese, and ended up actually enhhancing the Party's standing.

Jason i kindly disagree with your interpretation of the Party's influence over the spread of the "anti-Western" or "anti-French" reaction. I think the evidence that the Party, through it's media control, encourages nationalism/patriotism for its own purposes is strong. This was especially true after the Torch Relay protests. And now the Party needs to keep the sentiment balanced and not let it get out of control. I don't think the fact that they are now encouraging more muted reaction is any proof that they didn't encourage the xenophobia in the first place. Although it is a fine balance between opposite poles, it is a practice the Party has a lot of experience in managing.  

Finally, regarding CNN. Jack Cafferty made comments referring to "them" as a bunch of "goons and thugs" that have "been in power for the last 50 years." I personally believe his later statements, that he was reffering to the Chinese government and not the Chinese people. Although his wording is slightly ambiguous, considering that he states a time period which roughly coincides with the PRC state's existence, I think he is almost certainly referring to the CCP run state and not to the Chines race, which has existed for far longer than 50yrs. He may be very knowledgable on China or he may be very ignorant, but either way he is free to express himself. He is not a journalist, he is an editorial commentator and is not required to be "fair". Journalistic reporting and infortainment "dialogue" are not the same. In racially senstive America, if the public actually believed he was referring to the Chinese "race", the outcry would be far louder there than here. 

It's not surprising that the PRC gov prefers to spread their  interpretation throughout China that the comments were an attack on the "chinese race". That's all I'm gonna say on the CNN matter. If you believe he was referring to the Chinese race and not the government, write CNN an email and ask them to drop him from the network.

If you can understand what they are talking then you would stop saying that. Instead, from my point of view most of foreigner have so many criticism on china because most of them are wrongly led by their media.

my illustration about a hypothetical conversation involving Ningbo's cleanliness actually has nothing to with the city or its actual cleanliness. It was an example of how some people get tired of being constantly force fed the "greatness" of China, the food, history, etc. That's my experience. Maybe not yours.

If some foreigners do believe the Chinese gov has the abiity to flip a magic switch and "turn on" patriotism or has some kind of total "mind-control" over Chinese, then yes, I would think that is silly. But nations throughout history have had INFLUENCE, some more some less, over what their populations think. A state-run media makes this easier; I don't really think that is debatable. I have read those forums that you mention, but I stand by my previous remarks that the Chinese govt has encouraged anti-foreign sentiment and now is trying to keep a lid on it. We're not going to agree on this issue. 

You're correct there some Westerners who are "anti-china", some are ignorant of the country, others are not. There are more than a few individuals in any society who will be anti- almost anything. There are anti-Chinese people in probably every country, as there are anti-whites, blacks, semites, Americans, French, etc in every country. I don't argue that some Westerners are racist and "anti-China", I hope you also acknowledge that China has its equal share of "anti-West", or other racists.

In another aspect, the overflow of the criticism against human rights in china can provoke the attention of the Chinese people on the accumulating unjust. 　　The power of china is based on its united reign and stable social community. In Chinese history, none of the dynasties died because of being invaded. They died because of the unstable society, and the invasions were just catalyst. If the anti-governmental force is strong enough, the current Chinese government will be undermined, and this biggest potential enemy will be turned into a new colony of western countries. This is proven by the history.
　　　　3. Popular psychology of western people
　　
　　Western culture was based on nomad culture. A very dominant feature of nomad culture is that when a tribe is strong enough, he will definitely invade other tribes to control more territories and more resources, because they will soon deplete their own resources in a limited time. This means that every rising power will be a future enemy. Actually, the history of china proved that china, based on agricultural culture, has never invaded other countries for more territories or resources. But as western people don’t understand this because of the different basis of culture, severe misunderstanding exists.
　　
　　Nomad cultures believe in jungle rule, while agricultural cultures don’t. Based on this, the colonization history provides the western people an important mentality: superiority over Chinese people (as well as almost all the Asian people). The economy of western countries (especially Europe) is closely connected with China. Nowadays, China is independent of western countries on most high technologies. This kind of asymmetrical dependence, i.e. western countries depend on China while China is relatively independent on western countries, raised huge panic of western people.
　　　　Because of the misunderstanding of Chinese culture, western people believe that china is no more a potential enemy, but a practical enemy, an enemy against their superiority. No one wants his enemy to live happily. However, the life of western people is highly dependent on China. They don’t have enough ability to change the situation in the near future. So they dare not to see that China is already strong and prominent. They dare not to confess that they are being exceeded by China. They dare not to confess that any change on Chinese policy will deeply affect their life. They dare not to see that China is developing. In a word, they dare not to admit the fact that the former "lower class" China, is defeating them. So they have to filter out all the positive facts in China. They want to collect all the dark side of China to persuade themselves that "China is still very bad". This ostrich psychology can only relieve themselves from panic for a short while.
　　
　　The best proof is that in the 1980s, when China is still very poor, and the ideological conflict was largely relieved, there were very less criticism on human rights problems in China. When the time flies, in 1990s, there were more and more criticisms on human right problems.
　　　　4. Globalization: strike to the self-confidence of western people
　　
　　It seems unbelievable, but it’s true.
　　
　　A couple of years ago, Hamburg lowered the salary standard of workers. The reason was that some big companies wanted to move their factories to China, resulting tens of thousands of unemployment in Hamburg. Everyone knows that China is the world factory because we have cheaper workers. The Hamburg workers have to lower their salary in order to keep their job. This is just an example of the general lowering of salaries in all western countries. This is a natural result of globalization, because globalization makes the whole world as an entire market. But lowering the salary means lowering the living standards. Of course the western people complain. It’s very likely that they believe that China is the reason why they live worse than before.

　Because of the historic and practical reasons, the western world, from government to people, would like to criticize China, especially on the human rights problems. Their aim of criticism is not to help Chinese people to live happier, but to try to make China poorer, less stable, less efficient, less developed, less challenging, less competent, and so on. 

　　5. Sovereignty is the basis of human rights
　　
　　The very basic human rights are the rights of survive, the right of development, and the right to keep his own dignity. The first line of German constitution is "The dignity of human beings is protected."
　　
　　Without these very basic human rights, the other human rights are just Utopia.
　　
　　In a country without its own sovereignty, the people there don’t have those very basic human rights. We see the real examples in the history:
　　
　　The US said that they wanted to bring human rights to Kosovo and Iraq. The US defeated their government and controlled those areas. But in those areas, do the inhabitants get more rights? They worry if they will be robbed or killed tomorrow. The US soldiers can torture man freely, rape women freely. That is the life without sovereignty.
　　
　　If these areas are so far away from us, let’s see the history of Germany in 1949-1950. An old German lady told me a story. After Germany was defeated, the French soldiers controlled her hometown. The Germans didn’t have any rights. If the French soldiers were unhappy, they can catch any German freely and torture him or her, just for fun. The French soldiers lived in their beautiful house, and her family was driven into the small, cold and humid basement. She got serious problems in all of her joints - arthritis, till now. The French soldiers robbed her food. So her family was very often starved. Her neighbor was even starved to death. No one cares. Till now, this lady is still afraid of fireworks, because this will revoke her tragic memory. That is the life without sovereignty.
　　
　　Besides the French soldiers, the Soviet soldiers raped over 2 million German women, according to the incomplete statistics. That is the life without sovereignty.
　　　　China suffered this kind of tragedy 70 years ago. We never forget that miserable history, and we don’t want that this tragedy happens again to us. We don’t want to be the second Kosovo, the second Iraq, or the second Germany, because we don’t want a life without our own sovereignty.
　　
　　Yes, you can write a long list, listing huge amount of cases that the individual human rights were broken in China. But this is much better than the semi-colony period. At least, now we have our very basic rights. Our rights to survive and rights of dignity are secured by our military force.
　　　　6. Force is everything
　　
　　basically; Chinese culture is based on agricultural culture. This basis determines that China won’t be an invading country; China won’t be an enemy against anyone, even when it’s strong. But the western countries forced us to join the game of their jungle rule. Just like Napoleon’s famous sentence "China is a sleeping lion. Don’t wake him up." The western countries forced us to wake up. And this lion roars.
　　
　　In this world, if we come to the international affairs, we clearly see that there is no virtue and morality. The only determinant is the force. Of course, this force includes military, economy and culture. Now China is accumulating strong force, and the other Asian countries are also developing. The Asian power is rising in the world.
　　
　　The US also has many serious human rights problems. They might be just a little bit better than in China - if at all. Why the criticism against American human rights problems is so less in the world, comparing to the criticisms against China? Very simple, because the US is very powerful, much more powerful than any other current power in the world. So, according to the western philosophy and history, the best way of China to get rid of the criticism is that we develop our country until we are much stronger than any western country. At that time, it’s our turn to criticize the western countries on the human rights, and no one dares to criticize us.
　　
　　Yes, we have problems. But we develop. Not like the western countries, we don’t have colonies all over the world. We have to accumulate every single cent by our effort. We will solve these problems, but not immediately, not under the pressure of western countries. We will solve these problems by ourselves.

The PRC is the only state to control China

Whether it's Iraq, capital punishment, or  crime rate... the outside world has not critcized less as the US grew stronger. Actually the opposite probably occurs. As nations grow in prominence, so does the attention other nations give to their actions...and highlight the flaws. China has a long and glorious history of colonizing other areas, or are you suggesting that the Xia Dynasty's territory included the whole of modern China? And regarding invading other countries....go ask a Vietnamese person what happened in  1979. Can the author list all of the colonies of Germany, Netherlands, France, Switzerland etc? and how much money they make from them?

you keep bringing this junk up. well, the people on this forum are intelligent enough to read this poor "work" you copied for themselves and if they have a sliver of knowledge on history, culture, economics, or international relations...they'll see that it is worthless drivel. i also don't want to go through details in terms of any political events, history etc...as i don't think you can convince me and vice versa.  

Just wanted to say what i feel like to say: i was dislike ccp and i was pay lot of respect on " freedom, democracy "labelled on western country, and i hope that i could study, work or live in western country to enjoy the so called freedom,democracy etc whatever, which is very stupid i feel like it now

 I really become know more about the western country(bias, political etc..)after what happened on 3.14 (tibet riot) and attack torch bearer during the torch relay and how western media put dark hue on china based on their ingrained bias against china accordingly...

I become to know how hard life oversea chinese are in those western country labelled "freedom, democracy", i become to know why they hold national flag roar against those who are tibet splittism, i become to know why they fight back firmly for whose people who are arrogant, bias, ignorance people who trying to tease and humiliated them...

 From these serial event happened recently, what really come to my mind is even someone like you who work in china have bias on us how could be possible for those who are from your country haven't ?

I thought most of people from western country are well educated and decent as i have very pleasure experience to work with them, which is very completely wrong.

I experienced too much ugliness in domestic, and now experiencing tons of ugliness from those who are tibet independent, some arrogant western people, media and who have bias on china...

 This is not a world people would pay you back if you are trying to be nice, this is a world dominated by power.

There are numerous discussions going on, on several expat sites, all showing  different opinions ending up in rude words and bad manners.

I see a tendency that chinese people somehow seem to be tired of others (Europe/USA) telling them what to do and how to think, while these others seem to be convinced that their opinion is the only truth.

But instead of discussions in order to understand each other better, the discussions seem to have one purpose only:

Make the other accept your point of view one way or the other.

I also see a certain agressiveness arising with Chinese as if the rest of the world is against them.

How many people demonstrated against the torch in Paris? And how many people were shocked about that? 30% against 70%?  10% against 90%? 0.001% against 99.999%?  Who knows the answer?

I heard Carrefour was being boycott based on just rumours only and because it's French.

Also that discussion on another site ended up in needles fight.

I see the same going on here.
